Christmas Presents!

Tebben gave me one of my Christmas presents early today. He took me to see The Nutcracker at the U of I performing arts center! It was a very impressive present becase 1)He remembered I wanted to go after I only mentioned it once a long time ago 2) He went voluntarily and 3) He kept the whole thing secret until we got there! The Krannert center, which is where the show was, is only 2 blocks from our house, so he drove us there to be extra sneaky, which turned out to be a good idea because there was freezing rain coming down when we got out.

The last Nutcracker I saw was with my Mom, and we went to see the Joffrey prodution which was of course amazing. The fun thing about ballet, though, is that it's the same music and the same story, but it's totally different each time. This production was a a ballet company that is part of a ballet school, so there were tons of little kids in it. The whole Russian dancer part was all little kids, Clara and the Nutcracker were both about 14 or 15, and the little ones that come out of the giant skirt were all about 5. I love super professional ballerinas, but I also love little tiny ballerinas that have to watch eachother to remember what comes next, and this was a geat combination. It was a very girl-power show too, because there were only 2 male ballet dancers (not including the uncle and all the guys at the party who don't dance), the rest they did with all girls. None of the girls were emaciated, either! Some of them were downright plump, not even exaggerating! Of course they were all great dancers and super strong but they were thicker than any ballerinas I'd ever seen. Tebben honestly thought that one of them was a guy and they were doing a joke (because a man had played Mother Ginger).

They had ballerina cupcakes for sale during intermission, and a full service bar! It was all around a great present, because it was 2 minutes from home, had tons of adorable children both in the show and in the audience, and involved wine and cupcakes, all my favorite things wrapped into one!

That was such a great story, Katie, thank you for sharing!! I'm glad you each know how lucky you are, and find ways to show it.

Someone needs to let Tebben know he is straying over an important unwritten line and making things hard on his fellow men. If he finds himself with season tickets to the ballet, he will have only himself to blame. Actions have consequences.

Who is regular p?? Is that you, Dad?

Whoever he is, he is right, Tebben. I'm here, as a wife, to tell you that he's right. :) But if you go the ballet, Katie will probably go to army museums with you 'n' stuff.
