Tebben Camp Update

This is Tebben when he graduated from Basic Training, isn't he cute?  This isn't what he'll be wearing when he graduates from LDAC (I don't know what that stands for, but it's where he is now in WA).  They will just graduate in ACUs, those are the digital looking BDUs.

I talked to him on the phone on Friday, and also got a letter from him.  He did awesome on his PT test, and got his second best run time ever!  His best run time was right after basic training, when, as you can see, he weighed about three pounds.  He likes everyone in his squad and platoon and even his cadre.  The whole month is devoted to Land Nav, which he says he's really good at.  I don't know how he can be so awesome at military Land Nav, but he can't read a road map to save his life, maybe they train them so hardcore that they lose the ability to find their way in the civilian world.  I'll have to ask Uncle Nick and Uncle John how they are at road maps.

I've got a batch of cookies to mail to him and his squad, but other than that, not much news to tell!

What about me?! I'm fantastic at road maps. I imagine Johnno is too, but Nick talks while interpreting and that lowers his score.

I also was going to write about you, Dad! I think it is because you are Navy and they are Army, like Tebben.

To all reading - I still have friends who call Dad to figure out how to get somewhere. And he is better at maps than anyone I know. I still call him, too, poor guy. "Hi, this is your 33 year old daughter. I'm on the expressway and need to know how to get to my appointment. How do I get there from here?" That is not a joke - I wish it was.

I'll put my husband up against Albert in a map reading contest any day! Stuart keeps maps at his desk at work because I call him constantly for directions. Usually it involves me saying hurry, hurry the exit is coming up - do I get off here or what!?!

I wonder if Tebben feels a disturbance in the force with his mother-in-law being so close by?

You're right Uncle Albert, I need full military sampling- Evie, Paul, Uncle Howard, how are your map reading skills?

I'm a genius a tit when not pregnant. i think Paul is okay, but I definitely have a better sense of direction when maps aren't involved. All of that has zero to do with any training, though,

Maddie loves maps too!

Shelley and I are the similar Eva, I can get us anywhere when we have a map (thank you Boy Scouts), and Shelley is awful with maps. But she has a bit of a better sense of direction without maps. Ella loves maps too. We should have a Pyle family orienteering contest, that would be the best.

In the contest, would I be allowed to call Dad or Joe when I got lost?
