Our whole house had an exciting time this Wednesday when we got broken into at 5:30 AM! Don't worry it wasn't a robber and everyone is fine, here's the story:
My roommate Becky was awake getting ready for work when she heard someone slamming into the back door downstairs. She peeked down just in time to see a kid in his late twenties whom she didn't know bust through our back door, ripping the deadbold entirely out the door and go into the kitchen. Becky woke me and Tebben up and Tebben and Becky's boyfriend went downstairs while Becky and I called 911.
Apparently ( I guess I should let Tebben write this since he is the one that did everything, but oh well, it's my turn to post) the kid just sat down in our dining room. Half of his face was covered in dried blood and he was totally drunk. He thought he was in his friend's house and kept yelling for his friend to come out. He said that another of his friends "stepped on his face" last night.
The police came right away and arrested him, and I keep forgetting to check in the police blotter to see if we made it in, but I bet we did.
Everything turned out fine, except our landlords are being very unhelpful, they put a brass plate over the huge whole ripping the deadbolt out made, but they won't replace the doorframe, which the carpender said was the only part that was still unsafe.
On a less sensational but exciting for us note, Tebben and I are sooooo close to being all packed up for our move that is still 2 months away! We are way proud of this because it's going to make our move, which is shaping up to be quite hectic, a lot smoother. Now as soon as we find someplace to keep our stuff for the week we'll be homeless, all we'll have to do is pack up the last of our dishes, clothes, and odds and ends!
Also exciting this week is Tebben getting a fantastic new job as the camping expert at Dick's Sporting Goods! He's way extra qualified and it's going to be suuuuuch a better job than the boring computer lab he has been working at. Fun!
As far as wedding news goes, we'll be getting our caterer's 2008 menu this August, and all the catering people seem really helpful, and hopefully they'll get even more helpful when the find out who my brother and sister-in-law are because Nate and Shelley are good friends with all the catering staff, being former employees. The best part of the U of I catering is that floral centerpieces are including in the catering price, and you get to talk with their florist to design your own centerpieces with the flowers and colors you want! I'm so excited!
